The Delekta Review

Xiringuito Escribà on Platja del Bogatell is Barcelona's most famous beach restaurant — opened in 1992 by the Escribà pastry family, and the paellas cooked in enormous pans visible from the sand have become one of the city's defining food images. Joan Escribà turned the xiringuito into a culinary landmark on the beachfront, with enthusiasm and an innovative eye that kept it there. The paella and fideuà are the reasons to come. The seafront setting is spectacular. The honest assessment is that you're paying a substantial premium for the view — prices are steep, the tourist crowd is heavy, and the food doesn't always justify the bill. The Escribà family's pastry heritage means desserts are reliably excellent. Best strategy: go for a late lunch on a weekday, order the paella, sit on the terrace and accept the beach tax. On those terms, it delivers a genuinely memorable Barcelona experience.
