The Delekta Review

Can Solé has been serving seafood in the Barceloneta since 1903, when a Sr. Solé was running a fishermen's bar and the fishermen started asking the kitchen to cook whatever they'd landed that morning. The origin story is also the philosophy: the freshest peix, prepared with minimum interference. 120-plus years in now. Head chef Mari Carmen — who, as the neighbourhood puts it, has the muscle memory of decades behind the stove — runs sipies trossejades slow-baked in tomato sauce (23€), arròs negre with sepia ink, and a fideuà with an allioli with enough garlic to turn it pale green — the real thing, not a diluted afterthought. The fried carxofa amb foie gras draws regular praise as one of the best preparations of the vegetable in the city. Paella marinera with escamarlans, musclos and cloïsses (minimum 2, ~21,50€ pp) and bunyols de bacallà round out the classics. Tucked on a side street without a terrace or sea view — so no staff hustling tourists outside. Inside: open kitchen, walls lined with 120 years of photographs. The genuine Barceloneta article.
