La Mar Salada
Seafood & Rice · Barceloneta, Barcelona · €€€
Reliable seafood and rice dishes on the Barceloneta waterfront. Excellent fideuà and arroz negro. More locals than tourists — a good sign on this strip.
The Delekta Review
La Mar Salada on Passeig de Joan de Borbó manages the rare combination of being both reliably good and fairly priced on a stretch where most competitors are neither. The location pulls fewer tourists than the beach end of the passeig, which is both its business challenge and its culinary advantage: local pressure keeps the kitchen honest. The fideuà and the arròs negre are the dishes most cited, and both arrive with the cruixent socarrat at the bottom that separates serious Barcelona rice from the one-size-fits-all version handed to cruise passengers. Fish is market-fresh, the daily changes with what the lonja offers, and the cooking treats rice as a discipline rather than a tourist prop. Prices are moderate for the quality and the address. The honest caveat: it isn't the most exciting seafood in the city. But in a neighbourhood where most waterfront restaurants charge premium for mediocre paella, delivering genuine quality at fair prices matters more than excitement.
