The Delekta Review

Els Pescadors sits on Plaça de Prim in Poblenou — a square so village-like, with its gnarled ombú trees and low surrounding buildings, that you forget you're in a city of 1.6 million. The Maulini family has been here since 1980, sourcing fish directly from local fishermen, and the second generation under Marc Maulini has sharpened the offer without losing its soul. The suquet is the dish that separates this place from the waterfront tourist traps: a proper Catalan fisherman's stew, made with whatever the boats brought in that morning. The rice dishes — particularly the 'bomba' with three locally sourced fish — are among the best in Barcelona. The building itself dates to 1848, and the original tavern room preserves the feel of the fishermen's meeting place it once was. Not cheap, but correct for what it delivers.
