Can Dende

Brazilian Brunch & Café · Poblenou, Barcelona · €€

Afro-Brazilian flavours in Poblenou. Chef puts Bahian soul into Barcelona. Moqueca, acarajé, coxinha. One of the most distinctive voices in the city.

The Delekta Review

Can Dende in Poblenou is chef Patricia Leona's Brazilian brunch spot — a São Paulo native who put Bahian soul into a tiny Poblenou storefront with an open kitchen where two chefs and a pot-washer work in full view. Four versions of eggs Benedict anchor the menu — the pulled pork Benedict is the star (pork marinated 24 hours, slow-cooked 6). Caramelised French toast, fried green tomatoes with sweet chilli sauce, pão de queijo, and the bombom coffee (espresso with condensed milk) round out the lineup. Average 15 euros. Floor-to-ceiling windows, no reservations, frequent waits. Closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Open for brunch and lunch only, closes by 4:30pm. In a city dominated by Mediterranean brunch and avocado toast, Can Dende offers something genuinely different: Brazilian comfort with real technique, and a chef who clearly loves what she is cooking.
