Can Majó

Paella & Seafood · Barceloneta, Barcelona · €€€

Barceloneta institution since 1968. Terrace steps from the beach. Suquet de marisc and grilled whole fish standouts. Maintained genuine quality for 55+ years.

The Delekta Review

Can Majó has been cooking rice and seafood on the Barceloneta seafront since 1968, and the terrace — steps from the sand, facing the Mediterranean head-on — is among the most straightforwardly beautiful seats in the city for a paella lunch. The kitchen's strengths are arrossos: the arròs caldós and a fideuà dense with prawn flavour remain the headline dishes, along with the suquet de marisc that gives the room a claim to continuity with the old fishing-quarter tradition. Whole fish from the plancha round out the serious end of the menu. Honest read: prices are steep even by Barceloneta standards, the location inevitably pulls a heavy visitor share, and service can loosen on the busiest weekends. But on a clear midweek lunchtime, with a rice that's actually built for two, a cold txakolí, and the sea at your elbow, Can Majó still delivers the romantic-Barceloneta seafood experience that most neighbours now imitate more than practise.
