Gata Mala

Natural Wine Bar & Tapas · El Raval, Barcelona · €€

Atmospheric natural wine bar in El Raval. Seasonal small plates, charcuterie, and excellent by-the-glass list. Candlelit and full of character.

The Delekta Review

Gata Mala — "bad cat" — is a tiny candlelit wine bar in El Raval where you often have to elbow your way in and are unlikely to get a proper seat, which is part of the point. The house preserves the increasingly rare Barcelona tradition of a free tapa with every drink: escalivada with goat cheese, handmade ravioli, seasonal small plates that arrive with the second round without being asked. The by-the-glass list rotates constantly, favouring low-intervention producers chosen for expression rather than reputation. Prices reward exploration — nothing is designed to intimidate. Packed, noisy, standing-room-only at peak hours, and mostly filled with neighbourhood regulars who have been coming for years. Candlelit evenings lean into the bohemian spirit the area still holds. This is not a place for a quiet dinner. It is a place for a loud, convivial night where the bottle in front of you is genuinely interesting and nobody is performing. Reservations don't exist; timing is the game. Come hungry for discovery.
