Awards: 50Best Discovery

The Raval counter widely credited with changing Barcelona's tapas scene. Razor clams, pa amb tomàquet, and croquetas served amid standing-room chaos since 2014 — the gold standard for high-energy Catalan barra culture.

The Delekta Review

Bar Cañete is long regarded as Barcelona's gold standard for high-energy tapas — the kind of place where the queue stretches down the block, the waiters shout over the crowd, and nobody seems to mind because the food is that good. Chef Marc Ribas has crowned it the restaurant with the best tapas in the center of the city, and the squid sandwich alone has achieved near-mythical status: firm, crispy squid pressed between two layers of fluffy bread for €6.50. Third-generation owner Jose Cañete continues a family tradition that started with his grandfather, a festival waiter in postwar Barcelona. Prices are not budget-friendly and critics consistently note the premium, but the consensus is clear: Bar Cañete delivers, and has for years. The 50Best Discovery recognition only confirms what the queue outside already tells you.
