Barra Oso

Catalan/French · Sarrià-Sant Gervasi, Barcelona · €€

Chef Òscar Álvarez's solo debut on Muntaner — a candle-lit bar-restaurant in Sarrià-Sant Gervasi where shareable Catalan dishes meet French technique, anchored by a 100-plus-reference wine list and live music on Fridays.

The Delekta Review

Òscar Álvarez left Mesa Lobo to open something with his own fingerprints, and Barra Oso is the result — a robust opening statement, if not yet flawless. The anchoas 00 on smoked butter toast earn the reputation; the house-pickled mussels on braised bread with roe and tarama show the same confident hand. The cap i pota katsu sando is indulgent and direct. Finish with the flan, served budín-style. Real criticisms surface: the rape de costa arrives muted when it wants nerve, doubling down on anchovy in the roasted peppers dilutes the impact, and there's a tic of leaning on bread as a base for too many preparations. Service runs warm but scattered. Sommelier Marcos Rodríguez handles 100-plus references that punch above the casual register. Prices stay accessible, the room small, the open fire genuinely alive.
