The Delekta Review

Ada Parellada comes from seven generations of restaurateurs — the Parellada family has fed people since 1714 at the Fonda Europa de Granollers — and Semproniana is her declaration that tradition and invention are the same thing. The canelons de butifarra negra take a classic Catalan format and fill it with blood sausage; the result tastes like something your grandmother would have made if she'd been bolder. The rabbit with chocolate, the cod with honey and rosemary, the scallops with sea urchin — everything on the menu is familiar and surprising at once. Dishes come in three sizes (S, M, XL), which is either a gimmick or a genuinely generous idea, depending on how hungry you are. The room is a riot of colour — Modernist floors, eclectic decoration, the energy of a house that's been loved for thirty years. Repsol Solete. Parellada has said she may close before turning seventy, so don't wait.
