Mundial Bar

Seafood Tapas Bar · El Born, Barcelona · €€

Mundial Bar opened in 1925 and once drew Gabriel García Márquez and boxers through its doors — Grup Confiteria brought it back from a COVID closure as a seafood tapas bar, keeping the marble counter, iron tables, and boxing mural exactly where they were.

The Delekta Review

The room still feels like it knows its own history — marble bar, iron tables, a boxing mural nobody has touched. Grup Confiteria, which also runs Paradiso, revived it from a COVID closure and kept the aesthetic stubbornly intact while redirecting the kitchen toward seafood tapas. The vinegar-marinated cazón en adobo is the dish to order — sharp, juicy, exactly right — and the fish and seafood suquet is thick enough to qualify as a meal. Barrel wine at €3 a glass and dinner for two around €50 borders on miraculous in this corner of Ciutat Vella. Two things to know: the old mariscadas and parrilladas are gone, and service runs fast but cold — staff move efficiently and offer essentially nothing else. If a transactional room doesn't bother you, Mundial is the sanest bet in one of Barcelona's most tourist-hammered neighbourhoods.
