Mont Bar on Carrer de la Diputació is the kind of Eixample wine bar that the city's own cooks take their days off at — which is the endorsement that counts. The menu is deliberately short, rewritten with the market, because the kitchen would rather execute six things perfectly than twelve adequately. The wine-by-the-glass programme is arguably Barcelona's best: natural bottles and small-producer references sharing shelf space with classic Spanish estates, all poured with the kind of curiosity that assumes you want to learn something. Creative Catalan tapas run refined without tipping into fuss. High stools, lively conversation, Michelin selection hovering overhead without imposing any ceremony. Prices scale with the wine you order, but a careful evening here is notably less painful than the Eixample fine-dining default.
