Mantequerías Pirenaicas

Breakfast & Deli · Barri Gòtic, Barcelona · €€

Popular breakfast spot with queues for their legendary flautas with jamón ibérico, tomato and melted brie, plus massive pintxos de tortilla. Old-school Barcelona charm.

The Delekta Review

Mantequerías Pirenaicas occupies an original early-20th-century charcuterie on Carrer de Petritxol, one of the Gothic Quarter's most atmospheric pedestrian streets. The interior is preserved almost intact — wood-and-glass display cases, hand-painted tile, the brass fittings of a proper old-school colmado. The queue forms for one dish in particular: the flauta with jamón ibérico, tomato and melted brie, a long thin baguette-style sandwich that has become a kind of neighbourhood institution in its own right. Massive pintxos de tortilla, good cured meats, cheeses and conservas round out a short list built around quality product rather than kitchen technique. Prices reflect both the Gothic Quarter address and the standard of the charcuterie — you're paying for the ham and the building, both of which are worth the premium. Walk-in only, best before the lunch queue forms or mid-afternoon when the flautas are still warm.
