Botafumeiro on Gran de Gràcia has been Barcelona's premier Galician seafood restaurant since Moncho Neira opened it in 1975. Now the flagship of the Moncho's group, it seats 300-plus across multiple formal dining rooms. The clientele runs to football stars, politicians, and anyone celebrating something expensive. Percebes, centollo al horno (29.70 euros), vieiras al horno (18.20), gambas de Palamós a la plancha (60.50 per quarter kilo), and lobster Botafumeiro-style anchor a menu of Galician classics shipped fresh from the Atlantic. The tuna tartare and pulpo á feira are strong. Seafood platter for two: 145 euros. Critics praise staff who go above and beyond but flag wine markups running over four times retail, and some diners find it overrated after a 280 euro bill. Desserts are uninspiring. Is it worth the premium for classic Galician preparation with no innovation? The product quality says yes. The bill makes you think twice.
