Askadinya
Palestinian / Menú del día · Gràcia, Barcelona · €€
Barcelona's Palestinian restaurant, on Carrer Verdi since the early 2000s. Makluba, warak inab, fatayer — Arabian bread baked in-house. Walls painted with scenes of Jerusalem, Nazareth, Acre and Jaffa. Leaf-covered courtyard. A quiet, generous place.
The Delekta Review
Askadinya brought Palestinian cooking to Carrer de Verdi in Gràcia in the early 2000s and has held its ground as the city's serious Palestinian address ever since. Makluba — the upside-down rice and chicken — is the signature. Warak inab, fatayer, mjadara, and Arabian bread baked in-house round out a menu that leans vegetable-forward without neglecting the grilled meats. The walls are painted with scenes of Jerusalem, Nazareth, Acre and Jaffa; the leaf-covered courtyard is the best seat in summer. Portions are generous, prices moderate, and the welcome carries the warmth that defines Levantine hospitality. A quiet, generous, deeply-rooted place that has outlasted trends by not chasing them.
