Halal-certified modern Indian on Consell de Cent. Chef Anand Singh Negi turns regional recipes into polished special-occasion cooking with a proper tasting menu.
The Delekta Review
Bembi has been quietly holding down Consell de Cent since 2007, which in Barcelona Indian terms is ancient. The name nods to the navel — the umbilical link — and the kitchen under chef Anand Singh Negi draws from half a dozen Indian regions rather than the usual Punjabi-heavy tikka-masala template. Go for the tasting menu; the à la carte is solid but the degustación is where the kitchen stretches: delicate samosas, rich dum biryani, a proper rogan josh, paneer three ways. Meat is halal-certified and the vegetarian and gluten-free tracks are thought through, not tacked on. The dining room is quietly upscale — white tablecloths, warm wood — one of the rare Indians in town that can hold an anniversary without apology. Pricier than most neighbourhood curries, but the cooking earns it.
