Palo Cortao

Andalusian Tapas · Poble Sec, Barcelona · €€

Andalusian tapas bar in Poble Sec. Sherry, fried fish, tortillitas de camarones. Authentic southern Spanish flavours in a buzzy setting.

The Delekta Review

Palo Cortao in Poble Sec takes its name from a rare style of sherry from the Marco de Jerez, and the sherry list is the soul of the house. Fino, manzanilla, amontillado, palo cortado, oloroso — a deep selection that sits among Barcelona's best, curated by a team that blends Andalusian and Catalan heritage. Chef Carles Carlitos Fernández runs the kitchen. Tuna tataki with ajoblanco, pulpo with hummus, rabo de toro estofat, fried aubergines with honey and miso, and truffled chicken cannelloni anchor a menu that fuses southern Spanish tradition with Catalan market produce. The tortillitas de camarones are textbook. Average 20 to 25 euros with wine and several dishes, up to 40 if you go deeper. The Andalusian-Catalan fusion is genuinely distinctive — fried fish from the south meeting rice from the Ebro Delta. Small room, fills quickly, worth the effort of getting a stool.
