Awards: Michelin Selection

Alta taberna from the Grup Olivé stable (Bar Cañete, Barceloneta). Market seafood tapas, croquetas de sepia 'Obama,' and Palamós prawns on a busy Eixample corner since 2002.

The Delekta Review

Paco Meralgo has been doing one thing well for over two decades: market seafood tapas at the corner of Muntaner and Còrsega, served fast and loud to a crowd that knows what it wants. The name is a pun — pa' comer algo, Andalusian for 'to eat something' — and the attitude matches: no ceremony, no pretension, just a marble bar, an open kitchen, and whatever came off the boats that morning. The croquetas de sepia 'Obama' are the house signature for good reason. The Palamós prawns, when in season, are handled with the minimal intervention they deserve. Part of the Grup Olivé empire that also runs Bar Cañete and Barceloneta, and you can feel the institutional confidence — the kitchen doesn't fumble, the service doesn't slow down, and the wine list doesn't overcharge. Reservations essential; the local crowd that fills this place doesn't share easily.
