Moments holds two Michelin stars at the Mandarin Oriental on Passeig de Gràcia — a pedigree that reads like a luxury brochure. Chef Raül Balam and the legendary Carme Ruscalleda deliver neo-traditional Catalan cuisine in a Patricia Urquiola-designed room of warm golden tones. The seasonal tasting menu emphasises fresh, seasonal, health-conscious gastronomy. The reality is more complex than the setting suggests. Several diners find the ambience underwhelming for a two-star restaurant and argue the food could use more creativity. The Mandarin Oriental location means a corporate hotel-dining-room aesthetic that some find soulless. The Ruscalleda name carries enormous weight in Catalan gastronomy, but some question whether the kitchen lives up to it consistently. At these prices — among Barcelona's highest — expectations are proportionally steep. When Moments is on form, the refined Catalan cooking and impeccable service create a memorable experience.
