Madre Taberna Moderna

Tapas · Eixample, Barcelona · €€

Leo Chechelnitzky's modern tapas project on Avenida Gaudí — built into the address where his mother Alexandra ran Intertapa for thirty years, now reborn as the original of the No Hay Mañana group with a non-stop kitchen and a curated wine list.

The Delekta Review

Madre sits on Avenida Gaudí where most restaurants coast on basilica foot traffic — this one doesn't. Chechelnitzky took over the space his mother had run as Intertapa for three decades and rebuilt it as the project that launched the No Hay Mañana group. The torrezno ibérico — slow-cooked, lacquered, structurally intact on arrival — is the dish to order first. The tortilla jugosa de patata con cebolla is exactly as runny as it should be. The arroz meloso negro with fried chipirones shows the kitchen has range. The canelón de butifarra and ceps with truffle bechamel push further into Catalan tradition without losing momentum. The wine list is curated rather than assembled — national and international references chosen with intention. Open daily noon to midnight, with a terrace facing Gaudí's basilica. It fills up; book ahead.
