Le Cucine Mandarosso sits on Carrer de la Cera in the Raval, and it's the kind of Italian restaurant you wish existed in every neighbourhood — the daily menu is written in chalk on a board, the portions are absurd, and the bill at the end is improbably small. Handmade pasta, seasonal sauces, whatever the kitchen has going that night; the format is essentially nonna-approved and improvisational, with the board changing around what's been picked up that morning. No reservations, which means a queue forms most nights; the Raval location sharpens the sense that you're in the right place. BYOB-friendly, which is unusual and charming in Barcelona. If you want Italian food that actually tastes like someone's Italian grandmother cooked it, priced like the neighbourhood canteen it functionally is, this is the room to find.
