The Delekta Review

Founded in 1904 as a workers' canteen in El Clot, turned over the decades by the Cuenca and Jovells families into one of Barcelona's most quietly respected traditional kitchens. The décor preserves the original early-1900s bodega essence — oak barrels distributed through the room, rustic touches, two cosy dining rooms that hold memory the way good old restaurants do. The cellar runs well past 3,000 bottles with more than 400 wine references from across Spain. The cooking is traditional Catalan with serious ambition: ous poché amb tòfona negra, seasonal game, cua de bou braised for hours, llagosta. The card rewrites itself with whatever came in from the market that morning, minus a handful of house signatures that have stayed in place for decades. Second generation now running things, with Marc Cuenca and Jordi León keeping the values their parents drilled in. Sant Martí is a trek from the centre — and this is exactly the kind of old-Barcelona kitchen that rewards the effort of leaving it.
