Ricardo García Sunet trained at Guy Savoy in Paris, ran kitchens in London and Japan, did time at Alchemist in Copenhagen. And then opened a sixteen-seat room in El Clot at the end of 2021 with his wife Rika Nakahori. The format is closed and surprise: you choose fish or meat for the main, the rest is the chef's call. Bread is baked starting at three in the morning, cilantro butter is made in house, charred shiitake is paired with pecorino and charcoal mayonnaise. Mikel López Iturriaga came out for El Comidista within months of opening, Time Out gave the room a five-star review, and Guía Repsol added a Solete in 2022 — three Tier-1 nods that didn't quite reach the rest of the city because El Clot, frankly, doesn't get walked into. Weekday lunch tastings run around twenty euros with a drink.
What works
An honest, technically serious surprise-tasting room at neighborhood-bar prices — the lunch number alone is hard to argue with. García's CV (Savoy, Alchemist, Japan) explains the precision; Nakahori grounds the room; the menu changes daily and they bake their own everything. The Solete is the institutional shorthand for what this is. Time Out picked it up early; Mikel López Iturriaga drove out to El Clot for it; Andanzas confirmed the level again in January — the work has stayed steady through four years.
Before you go
Surprise-format only — diners who want to pick from a carte will be unhappy. Sixteen seats means lunch and the once-a-night dinner book out fast; WhatsApp the same number as the phone if the line doesn't pick up. El Clot is a residential corner of Sant Martí, beautiful in its own way but well off the tourist track — plan transit (L1 Clot or Glòries with a walk). Closed Monday. Pricing climbs noticeably from the €20.50 weekday lunch to €42 for the evening tasting (drinks not included).
