The Delekta Review

ABaC — in a converted townhouse with garden in Sarrià-Sant Gervasi — is chef Jordi Cruz's flagship. Cruz was the youngest chef in Spain to win a Michelin star, at twenty-six, at Estany Clar; ABaC now holds two. The tasting menu shifts frequently with the seasons, currently around €225-295 depending on the format chosen, and Cruz has long been described as running Barcelona's most ambitious kitchen. The critical picture in 2025, however, is more nuanced than the star count suggests. Recent reviews describe the cooking as narrower and safer than before, with a September 2025 visit flagged as a step down — the absence of premium ingredients outside caviar made the menu feel improvised, as if a supplier had fallen through. One respected critic ranked ABaC fourth among Barcelona's four three-starred restaurants. That's a sobering assessment for a restaurant at this price point. The garden remains beautiful, the service impeccable, and the best dishes still demonstrate Cruz's formidable technique. But ABaC may be in a transitional moment — still excellent, but facing real questions about whether the ambition matches the execution.
