Margarit
Greek / Eastern Mediterranean · Poble Sec, Barcelona · €€
Greek-Catalan kitchen in Poble Sec where chefs Balis and Fenoll go beyond taverna cliches — Palestinian lamb, housemade tarama, and natural Greek wines.
The Delekta Review
Margarit fills a real gap in Barcelona: serious Greek cooking that goes beyond the moussaka routine. Chef Stefanos Balis, Greek-born and Hofmann-trained with stints at Pakta and Dos Pebrots, teams up with Jordi Fenoll for a short, punchy menu rooted in regional traditions most diners have never encountered. The taramosalata — ivory white, finished with pickled mussels — announces intentions immediately. The Palestinian lamb, a recipe from a friend, arrives fall-apart tender with yoghurt and herbs. Sourdough from Forn Serra, housemade cheese, and a wine list tilted toward small Greek producers and rare Mastika liqueur round out the experience. The open kitchen, distressed walls, and smell of charcoal settling into your clothes — book ahead, Poble Sec has noticed.
