Direkte began as a nine-seat sliver inside La Boqueria, and when Arnau Munio left in 2025, he took everything that mattered: the obsessive Catalan sourcing, the surgical precision, the audacity of fusing romesco and esqueixada with Korean and Japanese technique. The new 14-seat bar on Carrer de Paris gives him and co-chef Shu Zhang room to breathe. Surprise tasting menus at 72-98 euros deliver miso scallops with pickled mushrooms, king crab in pork broth with Korean mustard, shrimp with smoked green tea kombucha — each rooted in Catalan territory but wrapped in a traveler's sensibility. One critic has suggested a star is overdue, and it is hard to disagree.
