Bar Bodega Quimet is a generations-old bodega on Carrer de Vic in Gràcia — vermut de raig, anchovies from the tin, locals propping up the bar, the kind of place that Barcelona's trendier barris have largely lost. The Quimet family has run it for decades and welcomes first-time visitors with the same warmth reserved for thirty-year regulars. The vermut is served properly, with an olive and a slice of orange. The cheese boards are generous. The tapes are traditional and honest: patates braves, anxoves, embotits, truita. Heaven for vermut lovers, and a quiet rebuke to anyone who thinks you need a cocktail menu to have a good time. A bodega in the best sense of the word — nothing has been modernised, because nothing needed to be.
