The Delekta Review

Cervecería Catalana on Carrer de Mallorca is the tapas bar Barcelona argues about — is it genuinely great, or just the one everybody knows? The queue stretching down the block at peak hours suggests the former. Part of the Grupo La Flauta family, it serves hundreds daily and still maintains quality, which is its own kind of achievement in a city where high-volume usually means cutting corners. The ensaladilla rusa is a benchmark. The gambas rojas arrive sizzling. The huevos cabreados — fried eggs with ham and crispy potatoes — are comfort food done with surprising precision. The daily specials scrawled on the chalkboard are what regulars order first. Service is spectacularly fast for Barcelona, where waiters typically operate at geological pace. The volume is enormous — at peak hours the rooms hum at full capacity and the kitchen still doesn't visibly fall behind. Tapas run €5–12. No reservations — arrive before 1pm or after 3:30pm, or prepare to wait. Some locals sneer at the tourist crowds, but the food doesn't care who's eating it.
