Bar Electricitat
Catalan / Bodega · Barceloneta, Barcelona · €
Awards: Repsol Solete
Open since 1908
A 1908 Barceloneta bodega that takes its name from the generator that once powered the neighborhood — original wrought-iron green doors, white marble bar, wood-clad ice refrigerators, all listed on the Inventari del Patrimoni Arquitectònic.
The Delekta Review
Working-bar bodega rhythm — vermut casero from the barrel, with the traditional practice of leaving the bottle on the table and measuring what's gone at the bill; food is a substantial tapas program, not a snack list Plates and conservas around €4–12; full vermut hour with food clears under thirty per person — heritage-bar economics in a neighborhood that has otherwise tilted tourist Barreja on offer too — the traditional Barceloneta morning mixed drink of vermut and muscatel, historically what fishermen drank at breakfast
Ensaladilla russa de cangrejo on pa amb tomàquet — crab, egg and mayo on a tomato-rubbed toast; Time Out's pick for the house plate Bomba de la Barceloneta — Time Out calls it 'entre les millors de la ciutat', earning its place in a neighborhood where the dish is the local specialty Tortilla de patates — still made by a retired former employee who comes in to cook it; the recipe doesn't get handed off Conservas combo — mussels, cockles, razor clams, Cantabrian anchovies, olives, salted gambas — the table-share centrepiece for vermut hour Pulpo a feira, croquetas de pollo, anchoas, queso manchego and embutidos — the rest of the daily card; weekends add alcachofas rebozadas, frito de pescado, calamares
Founded 1908 — the building housed the electrical generator that lit this corner of the Barceloneta, and the bar took its name from the machine in the basement Victoria Jaén and Agapito Soler bought the bar in 2006; their children Daniel and Judith Soler took over in 2020 with son-in-law Toni Pérez. The longtime staff (Sarai, Javier, Coqui and Tere) have been on the floor since the previous ownership Sala listed on the Inventari del Patrimoni Arquitectònic de Catalunya for its preserved 1908 modernist fittings
Original 1908 furnishings in daily use — modernist wrought-iron green doors, white marble bar, wood-clad ice refrigerators, cast-iron table bases, wine vats; the decommissioned electrical generator still sits in the basement Small and crowded — weekend vermut hour means queues and standing room; weekday mornings are the quieter window for actually seeing the room
