Santo Porcello

Italian Deli · Eixample, Barcelona · €€

Santo Porcello is an Italian deli-bar with three Barcelona locations — Sant Antoni (the original), Sagrada Família, and Sarrià — importing its charcuterie and cheeses directly from Emilia-Romagna. Checkerboard floors, turquoise paint, and a counter stacked with culaccia and scamorza make Barcelona feel very far away.

The Delekta Review

Santo Porcello does one thing with total conviction: it makes you forget you're in Barcelona. The checkerboard floors, turquoise paint, and counter piled with culaccia and scamorza from Emilia-Romagna aren't decoration — they're the whole point. The tigella, that thin Modenese sandwich stuffed with salami and taleggio, is the anchor order; the bread carries the cured meat without smothering it. The porchetta and eggplant panino goes further — the bread is fresh and flavorful enough to be the star, the filling almost secondary. The tiramisu is one of the best in the city. Come evening, the place pivots to aperitivo mode: Negronis, Lambrusco, paper-thin mortadella, and twice a month a full buffet spread with a DJ for €8 including the first drink. The only real risk is staying too long.
