Basque Pintxos & Txakoli · Barri Gòtic, Barcelona · €€

Pioneer of San Sebastián-style pintxos in Barcelona, near La Rambla. Self-service counter, txakoli, cider, and a bustling atmosphere — one of the city's best Basque experiences.

The Delekta Review

The origin story of the Sagardi group — Iñaki and Mikel López de Viñaspre opened this small taverna basca on Carrer del Cardenal Casañas more than 25 years ago, pioneering San Sebastián-style pintxos in Barcelona at a moment when the city had no real frame of reference for the format. The elongated bar, deliberately stool-free to keep the crowd moving, displays a deep lineup of pintxos spanning hot and cold, each with at least four ingredient combinations carefully thought through. The volume on a busy night is staggering across the counter. Txakolí poured from height, sidra natural, solid wines by the glass. Upstairs, a fuller Basque menu for anyone wanting to sit down and make an evening of it. The Barri Gòtic location near La Rambla guarantees heavy tourist traffic, and prices reflect that. But the pintxos themselves are genuinely authentic — this isn't a tourist imitation that happens to be in a tourist zone, it's the real thing that took up residence here first.
