Elsa y Fred is run by Argentine sisters Camila and Sofí with Catalan chef Ramón, and it has become one of Barcelona's brunch institutions in the Raval / Born borderlands. Weekend brunch runs from 9am to 4pm — pancakes, Eggs Benedict, the classics done well. But it's more than brunch: the lunch set menu is €14.50, and dinner shifts to tapas — burrata with beet salad, crispy grilled octopus, crab burgers, steak tartare, patatas bravas. Over the years it's proven remarkably consistent, which is no small thing for an all-day café in a neighbourhood where fashion restaurants come and go. Kitchen open all day. The Raval location gives it character — unhurried service, relaxed atmosphere, a creative crowd that treats the place as an extension of the living room. The kind of place where you arrive for brunch and stay for a gin and tonic.
