Bar Canyí

Catalan Traditions · Sant Antoni, Barcelona · €€

Awards: ★ Michelin

Michelin-starred chefs transformed a Sant Antoni neighbourhood bar into one of the city's best. Short seasonal menu: mussels en escabeche, meatballs, cap i pota, and fricandó. No reservations; sun-soaked terrace upstairs.

The Delekta Review

When the team behind Slow & Low open a casual tapas bar next door, you pay attention. Francesc Beltri and Nicolás de la Vega built Bar Canyí in Sant Antoni as the accessible counterweight to their fire-driven fine dining — short seasonal menu, no reservations, sun-soaked terrace upstairs, a room that looks like a neighbourhood bar but cooks like the kitchen of two chefs who have nothing left to prove. The oxtail burger — stuffed with cua de bou, pickles, and kimchi — has built a reputation that travels well beyond Sant Antoni. The croquetes are real jamón ibèric, the fricandó is done the old way, and the bombes are widely argued to be among the best outside the Barceloneta. The fair critique is price: for the no-reservation, pull-up-a-stool format, the bill stings a bit more than it should. But the cooking earns it. Show up early, queue without complaining, and order anything with offal in it.
